PROFESSIONALS
Volunteers
SAdAS firmly believes in its volunteers. We need to be as close to our community as possible and use our volunteers' skills.
Our volunteers' focus
Mostly our volunteers work with our Tier 2 Service (Engage) where they provide specialist counselling and psychosocial interventions for a wide range of substance using people.
Highly trained & knowledgeable
It is important to stress just how well trained these people are. As well as possessing a plethora of professional qualifications they are also inducted into SAdAS over a long period of time and are expected to have a good understanding of referral routes into the remainder of our services and to know what the services provide and how they work.
We are never less than amazed and grateful for the time and dedication they give to us.
Varied skills
Additionally we also use certain volunteers within the remainder of our teams depending on what skills people have to offer. We cannot accept everybody of course as there needs to be a goodly measure of stability.
However we have some excellent mentors and SAdAS supporters from within the using community and we have people who are very good at group work.
Volunteer outreach
We also use Volunteers to help us to access people who are 'treatment naive' as we find they are instantly trusted on an outreach basis.
No matter at what level people volunteer, we initiate a training program - and over time have several staff who were recruited from these ranks.
