Do you use Stimulants?

Do you use stimulant drugs such as ecstasy, cocaine, crack or ampetamines?
A number of people die each year as a result of problems such as heart failure or heat exhaustion connected to stimulant use.

These deaths are often associated with party or club settings.

You should consider carefully whether to continue using drugs in this way. However, if you do use stimulants in such settings you must:
  • Ensure that you drink water regularly – alcohol is not an alternative because it may make things worse.
  • If you feel that you are becoming overheated take time out to relax and cool off.
  • If you start to feel unwell either take a rest or seek help.
Stimulant drugs can cause other problems. After use you may feel tired, hungry and unwell. You have depleted your body’s resources and you need to look after yourself. Eat well and healthily. Get plenty of rest. The effects will pass, but you may be vulnerable to other illnesses such as colds and flu if you don’t take care of yourself.

In some cases stimulants such as amphetamines and crack cocaine can be associated with more extreme problems such as psychoses.

These are situations where you may become paranoid and deluded. You become very aggressive and even hallucinate. These effects usually disappear after several days but if you experience them you should immediately seek help from a doctor.

SADAS and other drug agencies will be able to advise you more fully on all these issues:
